If you live in New York State, it’s important to have a financial power of attorney in place. The laws regarding powers of attorney are very complex, and without a valid document in place, your loved ones may not be able to manage your assets if something happens to you.
A power of attorney is a legal document that gives someone else the authority to act on your behalf in various matters. If something happens to you and you can’t make decisions for yourself, your power of attorney will be able to do so.
Specifically, a NY financial power of attorney gives the person appointed your power the authority to make decisions about your finances, including paying monthly bills, managing investments, and even selling real estate properties.
That’s why it’s important to talk with an estate planning lawyer about creating a financial power of attorney for yourself. With this document in place, you can rest assured knowing that your loved ones will be able to take care of your finances in unfortunate circumstances.
